The Importance of Remembering God

How many times do we pray for something, God delivers, an uncomfortable situation arises, and then we start complaining about the very thing that we prayed for? If I am being honest, I have done this more times than I can count.

Just recently I found myself in this place once again. It is easy to forget God when we are facing something that is unpleasant. We tend to put all of our focus on our problems instead of shifting our gaze onto our God.

The bible is filled with stories about people forgetting what God had done for them. In Deuteronomy the lord tells the Israelites “be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.”
God gave this warning because he knew just how easy it is to forget God, the one that brought them into the promised land.

When we forget we repeat mistakes, we go back to things that we had been delivered from, we fall into the enemies traps, and we live a life that is outside of what God wants for us.

When we remember God we get to have life and have life abundantly.

Remember God’s Character:

Everything that God does will be in direct correlation with who He is, so it will always be good! It is easy to forget just how good our God is.

When we remember God’s character, we can rest in who He is and what He is capable of and trust His plan.

“He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!”

Deuteronomy 32:4

Remember God’s Faithfulness

The bible is full of stories that show the flaws and imperfections of humans but the faithfulness and perfection of God.
Even when we look at our own lives we can pinpoint a time that God showed himself faithful in our lives.

Remember that! Problems will arise but keeping our focus on God’s faithfulness gives us hope and confidence in how God will work it out.

“Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.”

Psalm 119:90

Remember God’s promises

When we remember God’s promises and trust His character and Faithfulness it keeps our focus on God and not our situation.

We can trust that what God promises, He will fulfill. Even when life isn’t looking the way that we thought that it would, we can trust what God has promised us.

“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.”

Joshua 21:45

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19

Remember God’s love

God’s love is perfect! It loves us through anything and there is nothing that can separate us from it.

When we remember just how much God loves us then we can trust God with our lives.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

Ephesians 3:18-19

So when life starts to change or become challenging, remember God.

We remember God not so that we can dwell in the past, but to keep our hope in the one that holds the future.
