Overcoming The Fear of Dying

Testimonies & Stories

Confident Woman

Sep 25, 2021

Earlier this year was one of the scariest times of my life. I found out some shocking news about my health that had me in fear for my life’s longevity.

I was having a lot of abnormal symptoms so my doctor suggested running some tests to better detect what was going on within my body.

Once my results were in, my doctor called me in for another doctor visit. Immediately all the nerves began to kick in and I just had a gut feeling that some bad news was about to be shared.

My doctor then told me that I was at risk for having lupus, and immediately my spirit dropped.

Thoughts and questions started to run through my head like :

“Does this mean I’m going to die young ?”

“ Why are you doing this to me God ?”

“ What does my future look like now ?”

I tried my hardest to hold back the tears while in the doctor’s office but as soon as I got back in my car, I literally cried out loud as I thought about the fear of dying.

Suddenly, I heard the spirit of the Lord whisper to me :

“Everything is going to be OK daughter, and you will get through this.”

After that moment, I knew it was time to fight this fear of dying that came upon me. I knew this would not be the end but a new beginning to something better on the other side of this.

I’ve never dealt with a fear like this before but I knew that my God has conquered this fear before and that same God could help me do the same.

Here are some ways to help you overcome the fear of dying :

Find Peace through Prayer and Meditating on God’s Word

The possibility of dying is scary but every time I went to God in prayer and meditated on His word, I do remember feeling overwhelmed with peace.

John 16:33 says “ I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

This scripture reminds me that this world comes with many troubles and things that will bring sorrow but in our God there is peace.

For Jesus overcame the world !!!

That means that everything in this world that has and will happen to you, Jesus has already overcome it! And yes that includes death !

Go to Him and His word to bring you peace and reassurance of the many things He has overcome.

Find Hope & Healing in Community

Everyone deserves someone to lean on during hard times. For God did not create man to be alone and he surely doesn’t want us to suffer alone.

James 5:14-16 states “14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

This scripture talks about the many blessings that can happen to us through sharing our battles and hardships with fellow mature believers. For there is an insurmountable amount of power that happens when we as believers come together.

Please make sure to share with your spirit filled friends, church community, or spiritual leaders so they can pray for you and help you stay hopeful during this fight. For you are not alone.

Find Joy in the Journey

James 1:2-4 states “2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

This is one of my favorite scriptures and it encouraged me so much during this battle.

For it reminds me that our joy comes from the Lord. I had to learn to set my eyes on Jesus and not my situation or the symptoms I was experiencing.

I had to trust this journey, God had me on, and believe that through this experience will come great growth and internal blessings that will better prepare me for what’s ahead.

I pray this blog has blessed you and has given you some kind of peace, hope, or joy as you journey through any unexpected circumstances.
