I’ve suffered many sleepless nights wondering what my purpose was. I felt overlooked, held back and wondered if God had forgotten about me.
As I saw my peers seemingly floating through life, achieving important life milestones like graduating from college, getting married, and having children, and I had yet to accomplish any of these things, I grew more discouraged.
But Jesus met me when I was lost and disheartened. He truly opened my eyes to the beautiful and purposeful life God has in store for me.
While I grew more passionate about my relationship with the Lord, he comforted me with his Word. If you’re struggling with feeling purposeless right now, I want to share with you what the Lord taught me in this season of waiting. I pray that this brings you peace and clarity as you pursue the glorious life God has predestined for you.
HERE ARE 4 Encouraging Truths for When You Feel Purposeless
1. SEEK GOD’S PRESENCE FIRST
When I was struggling to gain a vision for my life, I remember going into prayer pleading with God to reveal my purpose and calling. Never with the pure intention of just being with my Heavenly Father, but rather just to hear a word from him, nothing more nothing less.
I expected God to give me the entire blueprint on how to fulfill my calling instantaneously. I wanted for this to be a very clear and loud revelation and for it to come to me in my timing.
Imagine if this did happen just as I expected, I got the full picture of what my life should look like, then there would be no need for me to continuously seek the presence of God. But this is not how having a relationship with God works.
God wants us to rely on him, to keep returning to him as he transforms our minds and rids us of attributes he never intended for us to have. He is our maker, and he desires to realign us with his ways, his truths, and his will.
If you’ve suffered from failed dreams and aspirations that have left you broken as I have, take comfort in knowing that God wants to restore you and make you whole as only he can.
Jeremiah 29:13 states You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
I love this scripture because it reminds me to diligently seek after God with an open heart, being available and willing to let God mold me into the Woman he created me to be.
You will never understand what you were created to do if you don’t know who your creator is and who your are in Christ. You must run to your Heavenly father with an open heart seeking to be surrounded by his presence and make this a priority in your life.
Understand that God wants you to live a purposeful life. He doesn’t want you to feel despair or confusion about what your calling is. But you must get into the Lord’s PRESENCE CONSISTENTLY and then in his perfect timing you will learn your unique calling.
I want to invite you to seek God more, be fully present with Him so you may receive all that He has in store for you.
2. SURRENDER YOUR PLANS TO GOD
At one point of my life, I made an important decision regarding my education and my future without consulting God. Needless to say, this did not work out for me. My failed attempt at creating my dream life was truly devastating.
Years passed, I continued to drift off course according to my plan and ultimately I felt like a failure. I kept thinking to myself, this is not the way my life was supposed to go!
Thankfully God met me in my desperation for a more fulfilling life and called me out of that dark season. He convicted me that it was time to release my original plan for my life and instead partner with him and his will for my life.
Jeremiah 29:11 states For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I love this scripture and hold on to it closely in my heart. It brings me such peace knowing that God has already formed a marvelous plan for us, one that is far greater than we could have ever envisioned. But it takes us realizing that what we may want for ourselves may not be what God wants for us.
Perhaps we are heading in the wrong direction completely and are on the road of potentially missing our calling. Or maybe we are dreaming too small. Whatever the possibility could be, don’t you want all that God has in store for you?
Maybe you have your life all planned out and are content with how your life is going, but may I submit to you that it is time to revisit those plans. Plan with our Lord and Savior Jesus in mind and let his words outweigh your desires.
Surrender your plans and expectations today and instead take up the Lord’s plan for your life. It will be one of the best and wisest decisions you will ever make in your life!
3. KNOW THAT YOU WERE DESIGNED FOR GREATNESS
After suffering some trials and tribulations I started doubting myself and what I was truly capable of doing. But in seeking God, I realized that he has predestined us for greatness. We are designed to be successful overcomers who will bring glory to the Kingdom of God.
Do you know how gifted, talented, and anointed you are? You have been crafted in such a meticulous way by God to powerfully fulfill the mission God has given you to complete.
God has an assignment on your life; you are a solution to a problem in this fallen word. The Lord has equipped you with everything you need, to do all that you are called to do. I want you to pause and truly sit in that truth.
When you seek God’s plan for your life you will evidently learn how you were designed, your spiritual gifts and the people groups God has put in your heart to serve. Don’t believe the lie that you aren’t talented, gifted, or appointed to do great things. As believers in Jesus Christ, we all are!
Ephesians 2:10 States For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This scripture should bring us security in knowing that God has a prosperous plan and unique assignments for us, and has already prepared us to do this work for Him.
It should get you excited to know that you’re set up for success through having a relationship with Jesus and by leaning into the Holy Spirit as He develops all the powerful gifts God has placed in you.
4. BELIEVE THAT GOD HAS A GLORIOUS ABUNDANT LIFE FOR YOU
I don’t want to paint this false narrative that everything in life will be perfect all the time. There are days where I wonder when God promises will come to pass. But what uplifts my spirits in these moments is knowing that God did NOT create me to be depressed, stressed, insecure in my identity and lacking Joy. NO! He created you and I to have an abundant life! And to live out this life Confidently, knowing our Identity in Christ.
John 10:10 States The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.
You must come into agreement with what God says about you and believe that God wants more for you. It is your belief in God’s plans for you that will be what propels you on this journey of living a purposeful life.
Don’t concern yourself with what others are doing in their life. God has a very specific calling on your life that ONLY YOU can fulfill. Focus on that.
I pray that you get this truth deeply rooted in your heart. We serve a marvelous limitless God that wants to USE YOU. When you’re struggling with believing in yourself know that God already believes in you.
Remember the spirit of God lives inside of you. God wants to advance you to bring glory to his Kingdom. The sooner you believe God has the most magnificent life for you, the sooner you will be walking in that reality.
Don’t delay your God given destiny any longer, take the time today to seek the Lord wholeheartedly, release your plans to Him, and believe your designed and destined for greatness. It’s time to start living in the pure joy and abundance that is rightfully yours as a Child of God.
Don’t fixate on how you thought your life would turn out instead Fix your eyes on Jesus. Let the Lord guide you and align you with his perfect plan for your life.
